The new Peugeot 208
more irresistible than ever!
Irresistible design
The new Peugeot 208 has been designed to be more alluring than ever before. Karina Weber, Product Manager for the new 208, tells us: "The new PEUGEOT 208 has had an irresistible look with a very strong personality since its launch, but we wanted to go even further. Firstly, with its new 3-claw light signature at the front and rear, which gives it an assertive stance and a sculpted, sporty silhouette. Secondly, Peugeot's new emblem takes pride of place in the body-coloured grille.
And you'll notice that the new Agueda Yellow and Selenium Grey hues give it a whole new presence. The new Peugeot i-Cockpit®, with its customisable 2D and 3D displays and 10" HD central screen, is also a real thrill. Finally, I'd like to highlight the technological contribution of the new infotainment system, with its wireless mirror screen, connected navigation and OK PEUGEOT voice recognition."
Electrifying powertrains
This city car has had a makeover under the hood, too. Karina Weber tells us: "We knew we wanted the new version to be alluring and to spark drivers' emotions, but the new Peugeot 208 is also designed for true excellence. Its new powertrain gives an unprecedented 156 HP of all-electric power with a range of up to 248 miles, and we have also added 100 HP and 136 HP hybrid versions as well." The hybrid models deliver fuel savings of around 15%, thanks to up to 50% zero-emission electric operation during city driving. Fans of manual gearboxes are not left out, with a choice of two petrol engines. "We've drawn on customer studies of the 208 and its competitors to meet customer expectations as closely as possible. In this way, we are giving our customers new equipment and new engines to meet their needs."
With its irresistible design, electric engines and latest-generation technologies, the new Peugeot 208 has everything it takes to continue the success story begun by the Peugeot 205 40 years ago. Here's a look back at the famous 200 series.
The famous 200 series
Peugeot 205 (1983-1998)
The Peugeot 205 brought us into the modern era. Its design, performance and multiple versions (petrol, diesel, 3 or 5-door, convertible, van) made it a unanimous success. In the mid-80s, its commercial success rescued Peugeot from a critical financial situation and revived the Marque au Lion. Its GTI versions (105, 115 and 130 HP) made a lasting impression on performance enthusiasts. As for its rally and rally-raid successes, they are engraved in motorsport history.
Peugeot 206 (1998-2012)
What if the real lucky number was the Peugeot 206? With over 8 million units sold, it's the best-selling French car in the history of the automobile. Its bold design and dynamic roadholding were a hit. By adding two innovative models to the range, the SW station wagon and the CC coupé-cabriolet, Peugeot hit the bull's eye and broke records. The Peugeot 206 is also the subject of a legendary ad, where an Indian sculptor makes his own 206 out of odds and ends. Do you remember it?
Peugeot 207 (2006-2014)
The launch of the Peugeot 207 marked the beginning of Peugeot's move upmarket in the city car segment. At 4.03m long – 20 cm longer than the Peugeot 206! – it offered more interior space than any other model. Finish and comfort were also significantly improved in a range that remains particularly rich in engines and body styles (station wagon and coupé-cabriolet are still available).
Peugeot 208 I (2012-2020)
The first-generation Peugeot 208 was distinguished by a return to more compact dimensions, but with more space on board than a PEUGEOT 207! The evolution is particularly striking inside, as the Peugeot 208 was the first model to include the new i-Cockpit, dedicated to driving pleasure. And, to completely satisfy driving enthusiasts, the Peugeot 208 GTI was the first mass-produced Peugeot city car to exceed 200 HP!
Peugeot 208 II (2019-)
With this second-generation Peugeot 208, we are making a strong statement for the 2020s. It features a bold design that takes inspiration from the Peugeot 508 and Peugeot 3008. Above all, the Peugeot 208 is our first all-electric model, and is part of our mission to make sustainable driving available to everyone. Since its launch, it has already won the prestigious title of Car of the Year 2020.
